Grasslands

September 26th 2011

Welcome to the Black Kettle National Grasslands here in Western Oklahoma. This is the part of the Midwest you thought only existed in Kevin Costner movies.

It’s home to a lot of darn grass, rolling hills, giant wind turbines and plenty of critters. Let’s just say I’m glad I’m wearing high leather boots. Yeah, still wearing the boots.

I’m fascinated by the wind turbines (I’m refusing to call them windmills). They’re huge, in fact according to one video I found, they’re as tall as the Statue of Liberty. Each arm is as long as an 18-wheeler and there are hundreds (possibly thousands …) sprouting up from every ridge for miles around here. I found a decent YouTube video showing their massive size here (in case my own picture below doesn’t do them justice).

I’m getting a little tired of wearing the practical things. I’ve been wearing the same 2 pairs of boots for over a week with jeans. I need heels back in my life, to fill this ache. So I made sure to buy three new pairs the other day. In fact, there should be about twelve packages waiting for me when I get home. Things I’ve desperately ordered while stuck out here. If that’s not saying something to you about my ability to cope with my desolate surroundings …

I updated the Daily Outfits page with little clickable thumbnails of all my recent outfits. You wouldn’t believe how much time and effort that took — but it sure looks great!
