I made the awful decision early on in the planning phases of this trip, to drive. When you put “Oklahoma City” to “Austin” in google maps, the little bastard leads you to believe it’s a simple six hour drive. When you hail from California, a long stretchy state with mountains, beaches, valleys and hills — six hours ain’t no thang.
Let’s add hours of crawling traffic, construction work, miles of open land and a flat out monsoon to that equation. My drive there was broken up by a detour to Weatherford to meet up with Kelly and our use of walkie-talkies all the way into Austin, but I still feel the need to block that whole memory.
I arrived to discover that our hotel room was far less than fabulous, that a thunderstorm was now positioning itself over Austin and that we were really freaking late for our first event.
I threw on some pink jeans, a comfy shirt and the obligatory wellies we all piled into the car and began a slow decent to downtown Austin for the Swap.com and Lulu’s event. I brought a pair of watermelon pink jeans and a white blazer to swap, but I had intentions from the beginning to actually not take anything else home unless it was too good pass up. My closet needs LESS things, not more.

We arrived, registered and got to mingling. It was so great meeting all of these amazing women and talking to them about things my husband normally shuns me for. We geeked out a bit over a few “famous” bloggers and everyone got a piece of new clothing from lulu’s to take home. I snagged a sheer printed maxi skirt — which should surprise absolutely no one.

I was excited to finally meet Sarah — who is a dead ringer for an Olsen twin, amiright?! We bonded over our choice to wear bubblegum pink pants and our black Hunters.
I wish my camera wasn’t such a dud — I guess it’s time to invest in one that doesn’t go limp when it comes to low lighting. I accept donations. Just so we’re clear.
Tomorrow: Day Two and an outfit post — busy busy.

Trench: Thrifted, Shirt: Target, Skirt: Old Navy, Wellies: Hunter, Nails: Gelish in Carnival Hangover.

Before I walked out of the house yesterday, I took a quick Instagram/Twitter poll about my little situation up there with the skirt. The results were mixed, but mostly I got the feeling that if I was to ever set foot in your city wearing this, I’d be stoned. Well guess what kiddos, I wore this all day.
This is what I wore scrambling around running errands before leaving this morning for Austin. In fact, I’m ashamed to admit this (but I do have some cushion for the pushin’) — I hadn’t eaten a single thing all day until 9:00. Best burrito of my life.
See y’all on the flip side of the Texas Style Council. If you want to keep up over this crazy weekend, follow my twitter or instagram feed, or follow the #TxSC hashtag on Twitter for all the dirt!
Oh yeah … I woke up and my hair was magically like 7 feet longer. Or maybe 8.

I happened upon this pretty little lakeside spot last weekend while I was trying to find a yoga class. A place like this is almost non-existent in California, it would be swarming with people at all times. People trying to feed the ducks, exercise and generally be close to nature.
Here, it’s abandoned and crawling with feral cats. How exciting for me though, I can take my gratuitous pictures without anyone giving me a strange look.
It finally rained here and I was so excited to dig out my wellies and trample around in the mud. These are one of the best purchases I have made. They’re so cute and practical. My next pair of rain boots will be Hunters again, the shape of the boot and the lining is just paramount compared to others.
I had a friend ask if my toes got cold in them, because her’s did inside her Target rain boots. I thought about it and realized that even without socks, they did not. I couldn’t describe why until I got home and inspected the lining. It appears to be the same stuff wetsuits are made of, neoprene maybe? I don’t know. I don’t surf.
Moral of the story, my boots are cute.

Well I think I’ve reached the end of my suitcase, because I’m really scraping the barrel with this one. This has been my uniform for over a week now: comfortable warmer top, shorts and boots.
My flight leaves for California on Friday morning and I have obviously mixed feelings about it. A part of me wants to cling to my husband forever but the other part of me desperately misses my friends, family, my little house and even that stinker of a cat.
My friend Dana will be excited to see that I’ve finally invested in a personal helmet for myself. A special helmet.
Actually, it’s not mine and I’m just dorking around. Having a few last moments of fun with the dog and my love in this mild Oklahoma weather. I already have the plane tickets to return for a week in November. When it will undoubtedly be freezing cold and miserable. I’m so excited.

Hey I have a fabulous idea … you should totally go “like” my facebook page. It’s the easiest way to see new posts. I typically post to the page every morning there is a new post. So there’s one good reason to do it … the other could have something to do with a giveaway. I’m just saying …

There are a few more pictures behind the cut of Lilly the dog and even a pretty funny one of my husband. He’s gonna kill me.

I had been waiting with baited breath for it to rain in California. Or puddle. Or to get caught on my parents lawn when the sprinklers pop up (at 5am), giving me an excuse to wear my new wellies. I threw them in my suitcase on a whim, hoping that they would at least keep my feet clean stomping around on my husband’s dusty work site. True fact: I’m skeeved out by spiders, but I’m actually even more bothered by going to bed with dirty feet.
My plane landed in Oklahoma City late Thursday night and I stepped outside to brisk weather and … puddles on the ground? Good thing I was already dressed for Fall weather. Friday morning we awoke to 50 degree temperatures and a drenching thunderstorm. I was so very excited to wear everything you see here.
We found ourselves at the new (outdoor) outlet mall in OKC. It down poured as we ran from the truck to the nearest store, which happened to be Michael Kors. While my hair re-dried (hence the ruffly bangs you see here), I found myself with a shiny new gift around my wrist from my lover. The girls inside the store practically fell over themselves about my boots. At least somebody appreciates them, because my husband merely rolled his eyes when I spotted a lake giant puddle outside Banana Republic and went right to work stomping around and splashing in it.
He took these pictures, and I think that’s quite evident because they’re the best I’ve posted on this blog so far. I’m not sure if it’s the outfit, the overcast lighting or the fact that he was behind the lens — but I clearly look happy and in love. Sorry to all my other “guest photographers” over these past few weeks, but only one special person can coax that glow out me. It helps that he likes photography too, but honestly — I’m just so happy to be with him in this moment.
