I happened upon this pretty little lakeside spot last weekend while I was trying to find a yoga class. A place like this is almost non-existent in California, it would be swarming with people at all times. People trying to feed the ducks, exercise and generally be close to nature.
Here, it’s abandoned and crawling with feral cats. How exciting for me though, I can take my gratuitous pictures without anyone giving me a strange look.
It finally rained here and I was so excited to dig out my wellies and trample around in the mud. These are one of the best purchases I have made. They’re so cute and practical. My next pair of rain boots will be Hunters again, the shape of the boot and the lining is just paramount compared to others.
I had a friend ask if my toes got cold in them, because her’s did inside her Target rain boots. I thought about it and realized that even without socks, they did not. I couldn’t describe why until I got home and inspected the lining. It appears to be the same stuff wetsuits are made of, neoprene maybe? I don’t know. I don’t surf.
Moral of the story, my boots are cute.

We ended up taking our Christmas card pictures while I was in Oklahoma this last week. It felt a little premature to do so, but seeing as how we needed to be in the same time zone to complete this task, I made sure it happened. I had to wait until my husband wasn’t up to his elbows in sand, monkey grease and … whatever else it is he get’s his aforementioned elbows into while he’s “on the job”.
Clearly I have a perfect understanding of what it is my husband does for a living. I know he works in the oil and natural gas industry. I know he stays on a “site” and watches the well, or flows the well, or … yep, there goes the end of my comprehension. I’m a darling wife, aren’t I?
Back to the Christmas photos — this is what I wore for the pictures. I’ll post rest of the pictures from this day closer to Christmas time. Expect to see: one tiny fluffy puppy in a green sweater, one rambunctious golden retriever who wouldn’t sit still for the life of her, and one disgruntled and slightly disheveled husband.
By the way, I didn’t wear this dress for more than the 20 minutes it took to take the pictures. Something about a strong gusty 40* wind didn’t mix well with it.

Sweater dress, meet cheap thrifted polyester floral button-up. Thanks for the “lumpy sack o’ potatoes” look. I’m determined to make this “blouse under a shirt/dress” thing work for me. I mean, it works for everyone else. I’m talking about you Kendi, where are the button lumps?!
Just discovered this liquid eyeliner pen from Smashbox. It gives a smooth, even line with a precise point and it dries quickly and won’t smudge. My sister showed it to me at Sephora last month and I’ve been restlessly dreaming of a perfect cat-eye every night since. I found it locally at a little shop in downtown Chico called The Powder Room. I’ve also been dying over this Benefit cheek/lip stain I was given a sample of at Ulta in the original red rosy color.
I love this little gold giraffe necklace, and I bet you do too. He’s so classic and a bit quirky. J.Crew makes great jewelry pieces, and I actually picked this up at a J.Crew Factory outlet. I may have picked up another one, just for you.
