November 24th 2011 — Thanksgiving
We’ve finally reached the time of the year that I’ve been referencing for awhile. A time I’ve looked ahead to and felt a mixture of excitement and sadness. For eight months my husband and I have been living several states away from each other. We have planned all along for me to move out there, but it didn’t happen right away for many reasons. The most important of those reasons was so that I could spend the holiday season with my family.
Yesterday I had a nice quite dinner with my parents and my sister (who took these photos, and actually enjoyed doing so) and then we took a few plates over to my grandparents house as well.
What truly changed my day and possibly how I’ll see the rest of this time with my family was this touching post by my friend Layla who is having to say goodbye this season to a dear friend. It changes your perspective a bit, eh?

Shortly after these photos I hopped in my little old Honda Civic to run some errands around town. The puppy wouldn’t let me put her sweater on and since it was so cold outside, I ended up leaving her at home. After I had finished running errands, I headed to a local thrift shop and found a great Levi jean jacket and a cute sequin and satin Bebe top. I got in my car and started to head for home.
What happened next is still a bit fuzzy. Essentially — I completely failed to notice an intersection with a stop sign. I don’t drive in that area much, but I do remember having accidentally run that same stop sign before. It seems to come out of nowhere. This time there was another vehicle there and before I had time to think, I hit him. The facts appear to show that I wasn’t wearing my seat-belt, though I generally buckle it before I even start the car.
My airbag failed to deploy so my jaw and chin hit the steering wheel column with some force. I was going approximately 30 miles an hour. I then slid a bit upward, and the top of my head made contact with the windshield. I had removed my fabulous hat by then and instead had my Marc Jacobs aviators up there. We’re thinking that’s what cut my scalp.
Luckily, other than a contusion on my chin and the cut on my scalp, I am perfectly fine. I was a bit sore the day after, but otherwise I am one lucky girl to be remarkably unscathed. The car didn’t come away so easy, but she was an oldie and we’re guessing the insurance company will label it totaled. The cost to repair it will likely be more than the old betty is worth. For now I’m car-less, but I have something lined up later this week that should suit me for the next few months while I’m still in California.
I do have to say, the EMS team complimented me on my outfit. What they saw of it, seeing as how I quickly removed my Anthro jacket when I felt blood running down my neck. I panicked about it getting stained and if you can believe it, I had enough gall to remove it before the blood got too far.
I’m currently missing one glove, the hat and the earrings. They’re likely in my car, in the tow lot. I’m mostly going to miss those sunglasses, but all things are replaceable. Except that jacket, I love that jacket. I would have been inconsolable had it been ruined.
If you think I’m being shallow and morbid, then you’re right. That’s mostly how I am. You also have no sense of humor or have the ability to see right through to my sarcasm. I am grateful to be alive and well, but damn. Those sunglasses.

We found this great empty grassy lot in Oklahoma City, fairly close to our new apartments. We won’t be official residents until January, but the deposit is down and we’ve been approved. I like the location — close to the airport, a Starbucks and most importantly, the outlet mall.
This outfit isn’t special, but it’s comfortable and functional. We ran errands all day with the pups tagging along and rewarded them for being so good by tossing the ball around on this perfect grassy spot. Marni is eager to keep up with Lilly, but her tiny legs just don’t go that fast. It’s amusing to see her try. I love how her face looks when she’s running, it cracks me up. They play so well together, even in the confines of our camper trailer.
I’m getting excited to move out here now that we have a place to live and I’m getting more familiar with the area. We’ve been on my husband’s job location in far Western Oklahoma since the weekend. It’s a bit more middle of nowhere, country bumpkin out here. I get a little wierded out by the clouds and winds, I start thinking of the movie Twister.
In fact, on Monday the town nearby sounded it’s tornado warning (sounds like an air-raid alert from World War II, if you didn’t know.) at exactly noon for a monthly “test” at which I was completely unaware that occurred. My husband said my eyes got huge and I grabbed the most sensible thing, my phone. It’s funny what we rely on now for news and information. It took me about an hour to come back down off the ceiling. Not cool guys.

I couldn’t avoid the Broadway musical reference any longer, sorry about that.
So I lied a bit last week when I said I didn’t bring anything good with me to Oklahoma. I did bring this cute (and warm!) coat I got during Old Navy’s 50% off outerwear sale last week. As you can see from the vertical position of my bangs, the wind was something fierce that day.
Marni rather enjoyed chasing my husband around in the grass (I don’t “chase” in heels, thankyouverymuch.), she didn’t mind the wind blowing through her bangs as much as I did. The two of them have bonded well. Even better is the cute little relationship forged between Marni and our other dog, Lilly. They’re inseparable and adorable all at once. Pictures to come of course!

Kelsi and I planned our plane departures from California on the same day at nearly the same time, for obvious reasons. As I’ve said before, I don’t care what the outside weather is, comfort and warmth are key when flying. This time around, it truely was cold outside. I try to wear pieces that I can stow away in a bag easily if necessary but that generally are snuggly and cozy.
I tend not to wear bright and obnoxious colors when I travel. I rather prefer to blend into the crowd and let only the little details set me apart. I love the monochromatic caramel and chocolate I put together here, which is not only pleasing to the eye but generally flattering and chic.
I actually took the puppy, newly minted with the name “Marni” — to Oklahoma with me. She rode in style and comfort in a plaid and cognac leather carrier that really looks more like a bowler bag than anything else. Nobody actually knew I had a critter with me. She was so quite and calm the entire time. My only problem was getting her to ignore the endless cab drivers and shuttle buses outside the Las Vegas airport during our layover. She had trouble concentrating on the task at hand, ahem. I guess everyone is dazzled by Vegas eventually.
