Reader Request: V-Day Party Outfit

Love Necklace: Bauble Bar (similar if still sold out), Flowered Heart Necklace: Forever21, Tiny Heart Necklace: Forever21, Top: Victoria’s Secret, Faux Leather Shorts: Rampage, Essie Nail Polishes: Pink & Orange, Flocked Rose Tights: ASOS, Wedges: Payless, Patent Neon Belt: Gap.

My friend Kerry asked me WEEKS ago to give her some suggestions on what to wear to a co-ed bachelor(ette) party in San Francisco the weekend before Valentine’s Day. So I guess that would be this weekend … sorry about that Ker.

I had this exact outfit in mind for her however, something fun and flirty but completely non-traditional. The sensible girl would throw on a red or black dress with some pink heels and call it good. The envelope pusher who runs this very blog your reading — likes to shake it up and make people take notice in a way that doesn’t involve boobs and butt in your face. Kerry agrees, and in fact asked specifically that I stay away from corset tops. Um, girlfriend. Just who do you think you’re asking for help here?!

Leather shorts are cool. That’s all you need to know. They also don’t work well in February temps with the bay breeze blowing up your tushie, so a cute pair of tights is a must. These are just, well. They’re great really. The wedges I own, in both black and red. They are completely comfortable, but still remain sexy and polished. I’ve already told Kerry 3 times in the last month to go buy them, hopefully she already has.

The pop of orange adds some interest, paint one nail in the contrasting color, or skip it all together. Gap has that same belt in a neon pink that matches the top perfectly, but where would the fun in that be?

Finally, since the trend of piling on arm candy is still holding strong, what better time to break that mold and pile on the necklaces? This isn’t an exact science (nor was it ever on your wrist) but pick similar metal tones, themed pendants — hearts and love in this case — or all of the same size, and don’t worry about tangles. It’ll add interest if they’re at varying lengths. If they all laid perfectly like in the picture, well — you’re a freak that defies gravity.

Throw on a black peacoat, swing coat or a similar fancy coat (leather would be amazing) and you’re ready to go! Don’t forget a pink lip. I recently fell in love with a pencil from MAC, Embrace Me. With a little gloss, it’s a perfect shade of love.
